Ratio and Proportion Practice for 5th Grade

DIRECTION: Write your solution and your answer. 

Part 1: Writing Ratios

  1. There are 3 red apples and 5 yellow apples. Write the ratio of red apples to yellow apples in colon form, fraction form, and words.
  2. In a classroom of 25 students, 10 wear glasses. Write the ratio of students with glasses to total students in all three forms.
  3. A recipe calls for 2 cups of flour to 1 cup of sugar. Write the ratio of flour to sugar in all three forms.
  4. Out of 12 cookies, 8 are chocolate chip. Write the ratio of chocolate chip cookies to total cookies in all three forms.
  5. Julia has 4 green pencils and 2 blue pencils. Write the ratio of green pencils to blue pencils in all three forms.
  6. Mary read 20 pages of a book, and 15 pages are left unread. Write the ratio of pages read to unread pages in all three forms.
  7. In a garden, 3 out of 9 flowers are sunflowers. Write the ratio of sunflowers to other flowers in all three forms.
  8. A bike has 2 wheels and 1 frame. Write the ratio of wheels to the frame in all three forms.
  9. The ratio of boys to girls in a class is 1:2. Write this ratio in colon form and in words.
  10. The ratio of marbles to balls in a bag is 4:3. Write this ratio in fraction form and in words.

Part 2: Missing Value in Proportions

  1. There are 4 red apples and 2 yellow apples. If the ratio of red apples to total apples is 4:6, how many total apples are there?
  2. There are 3 blue crayons and 2 red crayons. If the ratio of red crayons to total crayons is 2:7, how many total crayons are there?
  3. The ratio of boys to girls in a class is 3:4. If there are 24 girls, how many boys are there?
  4. A recipe calls for 4 cups of flour and 2 cups of sugar. If there are 6 cups of flour, how many cups of sugar are needed?
  5. There are 8 birds on a tree, and 4 birds fly away. If the ratio of birds remaining to birds that flew away is 2:4, how many birds remain on the tree?
  6. The ratio of cars to motorcycles in a parking lot is 5:2. If there are 10 cars, how many motorcycles are there?
  7. Mary reads 3 pages of a book every 10 minutes. If she read 15 pages, how many minutes did she spend reading?
  8. A plant grows 2 inches every week. If it is now 16 inches tall, how many weeks has it been growing?
  9. The ratio of red marbles to blue marbles in a bag is 3:2. If there are 12 red marbles, how many blue marbles are there?
  10. A recipe calls for 1 cup of milk for every 2 cups of flour. If you have only 3 cups of flour, how much milk do you need?
