Understanding Ratio and Proportion: Foundations of Mathematical Relationships   By: SIR PJ MIANA   Mathematics is a language that describes the world around us, and two fundamental concepts that play a crucial role in this language are ratio and proportion. These concepts provide a framework for comparing quantities and understanding the relationships between them. Let's delve into the definitions, applications, and real-world significance of ratio and proportion.   1. Understanding Ratio: A ratio is a way of expressing the relationship between two or more quantities. It is essentially a comparison, showing how many times one quantity is contained within another. Ratios are written in the form a:b, where 'a' and 'b' are two quantities being compared.   Example: If there are 4 red apples and 6 green apples in a basket, the ratio of red apples to green apples is 4:6, which can be simplified to 2:3.   2. Applications of Ratios: Ratios find applications in various real-

Q3 MATHEMATICS RATIO AND FRACTION Title: Expressing Ratios as Percentages and Their Reciprocal PJ MIANA Introduction: Ratio is a way of comparing two or more quantities. It is described as the part or percentage of one quantity in relation to the total of another quantity. Understanding how to express a ratio as a percentage and its reciprocal is an essential skill in mathematics. This concept is highly applicable in various everyday situations such as cooking, financial transactions, and design processes.   Expressing Ratio as Percentage: 1. *Definition:* Ratio shows the relationship between two quantities, written as a:b or a/b, where 'a' and 'b' are both numbers. 2. *Conversion:* To express a ratio as a percentage, we simply write the two quantities as a percentage. For example, if the ratio of males to females in a class is 3:2, the percentage would be represented as 3/2. This means for every 3 males, there are 2 females.   Expressing Percentage
